OB Ultrasound and abortion information.

When considering an abortion, your health and safety are important to us. Getting an ultrasound is the most important next step you can take if you are considering abortion. An ultrasound will help you know for sure if you’re really pregnant and if your pregnancy is viable. Approximately 20% of all pregnancies naturally miscarry. Know for sure and learn more about your pregnancy before abortion.

At your appointment you can learn more about your pregnancy. The following services may be available to you on the same day:

  • Pregnancy Testing and Verification
  • Limited OB Ultrasound
  • Gestational Age Determination
  • Complete Pregnancy Options Education
  • Pre and Post Abortion Education

It is important to have an ultrasound before making a decision about your pregnancy. An ultrasound is the most effective way for you to learn more about your pregnancy and options.

HOW FAR ALONG AM I?

You may be wondering when you might have gotten pregnant and or can’t remember when your last period was. Perhaps your periods are not regular. By getting an ultrasound, you will get an accurate measurement of the pregnancy to find out the gestational age of the baby. This will help you determine the due date of conception. If you’re considering an abortion, then you will need to know how many weeks pregnant you are. Then as a result you will know what abortion methods are available to you.

HAVE YOU HAD AN ULTRASOUND TO RULE OUT AN ECTOPIC PREGNANCY?

An ectopic pregnancy is one that does not implant in the uterus, but outside of the uterus. Usually in the Fallopian tube.1 It is crucial to have a sonogram before having an abortion, partly for this reason. If the pregnancy is in your tubes & not your uterus, then it can rupture the Fallopian tube. Becoming life threatening to you if not treated immediately.2 Neither a medical or surgical abortion will remove an ectopic pregnancy.3

If you have any of the following symptoms, please go to the ER right away:

  • Severe abdominal pain or cramping with vaginal bleeding
  • Extremely light headed or fainting

WHAT ARE OTHER REASONS AN ULTRASOUND IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE DONE BEFORE HAVING AN ABORTION?

  1. A sonogram can show if the pregnancy is healthy/viable. A situation could arise where the sonographer is unable to detect a fetal heartbeat, there could be a chance that you will miscarry naturally. If there is a fetal heartbeat that is slower than normal or the baby is smaller than he/she should be for how far along you are, these things could indicate that a potential miscarriage may happen. Which may eliminate the need for an abortion.4,5,6

  2. Another important reason for receiving a sonogram is necessary to see how far along you are in your pregnancy. There are different abortion procedures & differing prices, depending on how far along you are.

Community Pregnancy Center of Lake Norman offers a free OB Ultrasound to determine gestational age, detect a fetal heartbeat and verify that the pregnancy is in the uterus. Schedule a free and confidential appointment today.

Our staff is trained in early obstetrical ultrasound. Community Pregnancy Center of Lake Norman’s primary objective is to assess fetal viability and estimate gestational age.
